How Are San Antonio’s Rideshare Insurance Requirements Unique?

As you may know, rideshare drivers are required to carry insurance policies that differ from the coverages those who simply drive for personal reasons need. This is the case in nearly every state, and Texas is no different.

However, the city of San Antonio takes it a step further. Read on to learn more about the auto insurance requirements for rideshare drivers in San Antonio.

San Antonio Rideshare Auto Insurance Requirements

According to the City of San Antonio, you must carry several components of coverage as a rideshare driver.

The following minimum coverages are required when you sign on to the rideshare app but you haven’t accepted a ride yet and are not actively driving with a passenger in the vehicle:

  • $50,000 per person for death and bodily injury,
  • $100,000 per accident for death and bodily injury, and
  • $25,000 of property damage coverage per accident.

In addition, you must carry the following minimum coverages during the time when you accept a ride request until the ride is completed:

  • $1,000,000 per incidence for bodily injury, personal injury, and property damage,
  • $1,000,000 in uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, and
  • Comprehensive and collision coverage up to the actual value of your vehicle, up to $50,000.

You must also carry the minimum personal auto insurance coverages required by state law.

Under San Antonio ordinance section 33-018, if you fail to meet the minimum rideshare auto insurance requirements, you may have your driver’s license suspended.
